BAR OF THE WEEK: Quick – it’s an emergency!

Alarmed by the awful weather we’ve been having across the UK, we have created a chocolate bar – for emergency use only. Whatever life chucks at you – driving rain, floods, snow or high winds, this trusty little chocolate bar is ready and waiting to leap into action and save the day.

Guaranteed to make you feel better if you’re stuck on the M1 – it’s also very practical – and potentially life saving if trapped in a blizzard. So stick one in the glove compartment of your car right now – and no nibbling on your way to the shops. This bar’s strictly for emergency use only!

Tune in to our Bond Theme bar

We couldn’t let the 50th anniversary of the James Bond films go by without a mention. Created on the eve of the launch of the latest Bond epic Skyfall we chose to focus on the signature tune. Lots of tuneless singing went into the making of this special Bond theme tune bar. Read it out loud to see if you think we’ve got it right!

Bar of the week – A tribute to Felix Baumgartner

It’s not every day that someone decides to do a 24 mile skydive – for fun. Our hearts were in our mouths as daredevil Felix Baumgartner fell to earth on 14th October 2012, especially when it looked like he was in a spin cycle of a washing machine initially. Felix we might think you’re a bit bonkers – but we salute you!

Bar of the Week – Keep Your Chin Up

This bar was inspired by a rather unfortunate incident involving the founder or The Chocolate Library, a bicycle, a glass of wine, a cobbled road and a kerb. The result was a rather spectacular, acrobatic landing directly onto the chin. A small visit to A&E, much sniggering at Chocolate Towers and a new Bar of the Week was born.

An interesting fact to go with our Chin Up chocolate bar.. We had assumed that the origin of the phrase “Keep Your Chin Up” was something suitably wartime and British in the same vein as “Keep A Stiff Upper Lip”. It appears not. The first use seems to be in an American newspaper in 1900, under the heading Epigrams Upon the Health-giving Qualities of Mirth: “Keep your chin up. Don’t take your troubles to bed with you – hang them on a chair with your trousers or drop them in a glass of water with your teeth.” So there you go.

This week our chocolate is strictly ‘Not For Plebs’…

Inspired by the word that the Conservative Party Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell allegedly never uttered, our ‘Not for Plebs’ bar doesn’t hold back.

For the record the word ‘Pleb’ come from ancient Rome and refers to the non-aristocratic class. According to Wikipedia, one of its early uses in the UK was in public schools where pupils would be enrolled as ‘plebeians’ as opposed to sons of gentry and aristocrats. Fascinating.

*We would like to point out that this rather vulgar outburst is the work of one rogue chocolate bar (who had an extremely frustrating day), and is not endorsed in any way by The Chocolate Library.
